TP-Link Tapo P100 2-pack: two smart Wi-Fi plugs, no hub needed

The Tapo P100 is a small Wi-Fi plug adapter that sits between the wall socket and your device. The 2-pack covers, say, the floor lamp in the living room and the string lights on the balcony. You control it from the Tapo app, which also handles other Tapo devices such as cameras and bulbs.

In the app you can set weekly schedules – lights on at sunset, for example – or start a countdown timer that turns a device off after a set time. Away mode switches lamps on and off at varying times so your home looks occupied. With device sharing, other people in your household can control the plugs too.

The P100 connects directly to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so you don't need a bridge. Initial setup also uses Bluetooth, which TP-Link says makes the process simpler. With Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant you can switch the plugs by voice as well. The housing is made of flame-retardant polycarbonate, and a shutter covers the contacts.

Worth knowing: the P100 doesn't measure power consumption – that's what the Tapo P110 is for. TP-Link Germany lists a maximum load of 10 A or 2,300 W, so it isn't meant for heaters or other devices that draw a lot of power for long periods. 5 GHz Wi-Fi isn't supported, and this model doesn't do Matter or Apple Home.
