TP-Link Tapo C200: indoor pan/tilt Wi-Fi camera with 1080p and night vision

The Tapo C200 is a compact indoor camera you can place on a shelf or mount on the ceiling. In the free Tapo app you can pan the lens through 360° and tilt it by about 114°, so a single camera usually covers a whole room. You can save fixed viewing positions and jump back to them with one tap.

It records in 1080p. When it gets dark, the camera switches to infrared night vision, which TP-Link says reaches around 9 m. When the C200 detects motion, you get a notification on your phone. With the built-in microphone and speaker you can talk to people or pets in the room. A privacy mode pauses recording when you don't want to be filmed.

Footage is stored locally on a microSD card, which you need to buy separately. The maximum card size depends on the hardware version: early versions support up to 128 GB, current ones up to 512 GB according to TP-Link. There's also the optional paid Tapo Care cloud subscription. Alexa and Google Assistant can show the live view on compatible smart displays.

Worth knowing: the camera is for indoor use only and needs constant power from the included adapter – there's no battery. It only connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and has no Ethernet port. When positioning it, make sure you don't film neighbours, guests or public areas without their knowledge.
