TP-Link Archer NX200: 5G router with WiFi 6 for internet without a landline

The TP-Link Archer NX200 is a 5G router for places where no fast fixed-line connection is available or a line still has to be installed: in a holiday home, in the countryside or in temporary accommodation, for example. You insert a nano-SIM card, and the router provides the mobile connection for your entire home network.

On the 5G network, TP-Link says downloads of up to 4.67 Gbit/s are possible; what you actually get depends on network coverage and your plan. Eight internal 5G/LTE antennas handle reception. Inside the house, the router transmits WiFi 6 (AX1800) on 5 and 2.4 GHz. You connect wired devices such as a PC or console to the Gigabit ports, one of which can be used as a WAN port for a cable, fibre or DSL modem.

The failover function is handy: if the fixed-line connection drops, the router can switch over to mobile broadband. With EasyMesh, you can extend the WiFi using compatible devices. The NX200 is set up and managed via the Tether app, and there's also a firewall, VPN support and parental controls.

Worth knowing: you'll need a SIM card with a suitable data plan, ideally with a large or unlimited allowance. Check your provider's 5G coverage at the location beforehand. With three Gigabit ports, the number of LAN connections is fairly limited.
