Tefal Jamie Oliver Cook's Direct On 20 cm: non-stick stainless steel pan with Thermo-Signal

The Cook's Direct On from Tefal's Jamie Oliver range is a stainless steel pan with a non-stick coating. At 20 cm across, it is a good fit for a fried egg, a single portion of vegetables or toasting nuts and spices. According to Tefal the interior has a titanium-reinforced coating so food sticks less and you can cook with less fat.

In the centre sits Tefal's Thermo-Signal: the maker says the spot changes colour once the pan reaches roughly 140 to 195 °C, the right temperature for searing. You can then turn the heat down. The stainless steel handle is riveted on and, according to Tefal, conducts heat only slowly.

The pan works on every type of hob, induction included, and can go into the oven up to 210 °C, for instance to finish an omelette. No lid is included.

Worth knowing: 20 cm is a small pan; for family portions or several steaks you will want 24 to 28 cm. Even though it is dishwasher safe, Tefal recommends washing by hand to protect the coating. Avoid metal utensils and oven temperatures above 210 °C. The steel handle can get hot in the oven or during long cooking, so keep an oven glove handy.
