The Philips NA550/00 from the 5000 Series is worth a look if you want more than crispy chips. As well as classic air frying, it can also steam and combine the two. That makes it a good fit for families or anyone who wants to prepare a side dish and main course at the same time.

Day to day, you work with two separate baskets: the large one holds 6 litres and can also steam, while the small 3-litre basket uses hot air only. So, for example, salmon can cook until juicy in the large basket with steam and hot air, while vegetables or potato wedges crisp up in the small one. For steaming, you fill the 800 ml water tank beforehand.

There are 19 cooking functions in total, and the temperature goes up to 200 degrees. The HomeID app gives you recipes with step-by-step instructions. Automatic steam cleaning helps with cleaning up, and the removable parts are dishwasher-safe.

Worth knowing: the steam function is only available in the large basket, and the water tank has to be filled before each steaming session. This model doesn't have a viewing window, so you pull the basket out to check. With two baskets, the appliance also takes up a fair amount of worktop space, so it's best to measure first.
