The KitchenAid Artisan 5KSM125EMH is the well-known stand mixer with a tilting motor head, here in the soft shade Milkshake. It's meant for you if you bake regularly, knead bread dough or whip cream and egg whites, and you're looking for a durable appliance to do it.

At its heart is the planetary mixing action: the beater rotates on its own axis while simultaneously travelling around the bowl, so all the ingredients are evenly incorporated. With 10 speeds, you can go from gently folding to fast whipping. A flat beater, dough hook and wire whisk are included, and the stainless steel bowl holds 4.8 litres, enough for up to 2 kg of bread dough according to the manufacturer.

The motor head tilts back, giving you easy access to the bowl and tools. At the front there's an attachment hub for optional accessories such as a mincer or pasta attachment. The bowl, flat beater and dough hook are dishwasher-safe, but the whisk is better washed by hand.

Worth knowing: at a good 10 kg, the mixer is heavy and should have a permanent spot on the worktop. With the head tilted back, it needs around 45 cm of height, so check the clearance under wall cabinets. Additional attachments aren't included.
