Philips PureProtect 3200 air purifier: quiet filtration for large rooms with app

The Philips PureProtect 3200 (AC3210/12) is aimed at anyone who wants noticeably cleaner air in their living room, bedroom or open-plan living areas, for example if you have a pollen allergy, live in a city or have pets. Philips designs the unit for large rooms and states that it filters the air in a 20-square-metre room once in under six minutes.

The air passes through three stages: a pre-filter traps coarse dust and hair, the NanoProtect HEPA filter captures almost all particles down to 0.003 microns according to the manufacturer, and an activated carbon layer takes care of odours and gases. The AeraSense sensor measures air quality continuously, and a coloured ring with a numerical display shows you directly on the unit how the air in the room is doing. In auto mode, the purifier adjusts the fan speed itself.

Handy at night: in sleep mode, the unit runs at around 15 dB according to Philips, and in turbo mode at about 47.5 dB. With the Air+ app for iOS and Android, you can switch the purifier on and off remotely, check readings and set routines such as Fresh Bedtime or Fresh Wake-up so the air is already clean by bedtime or when you get up.

Worth knowing: depending on air pollution and usage, the combination filter needs replacing about once a year, and the app reminds you. Factor in the running costs of replacement filters, and position the unit so the air intake and outlet stay clear. You can tell the colour variant by the suffix of the model number.
