Philips GC026/80: battery-powered fabric shaver with a large lint container

The Philips GC026/80 is a small fabric shaver for clothes and home textiles. It trims off the bobbles that form on wool, knitwear or fleece through friction, so jumpers, blankets or sofa covers look smoother again. According to Philips, the blades spin at 8,800 rpm beneath a wide cutting surface.

The fluff ends up in a large container that you take off to empty. A clip-on cap changes the distance between the head and the fabric: more distance for fine or loosely knitted items, closer for sturdier fabrics. A small brush for cleaning the head is included.

Power comes from two AA batteries, which are in the box. That means no socket needed, so you can use it at the wardrobe or take it on a trip. At 123 × 80 × 58 mm and around 165 grams it sits lightly in the hand.

Worth knowing: there is no built-in rechargeable battery and no mains adapter, so you will need fresh AA batteries or rechargeable AAs now and then. Work without pressing down and try an inconspicuous spot first, because the blades can catch threads on very fine or loosely woven fabrics. Empty the lint container often, otherwise performance drops.
