Samsung T7 Shield 2 TB: rugged external SSD with IP65 protection for on the go

The 2 TB Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield (MU-PE2T0S/WW, black) is aimed at anyone who takes their data not just to the desk but outdoors too: photographers, videographers, travellers, or anyone carrying their games collection between PC and console. The rubberised casing is grippy and rated IP65 against dust and water jets.

Technically, it works just like the regular T7: over USB 3.2 Gen 2, it reaches up to 1,050 MB/s read and up to 1,000 MB/s write according to Samsung. That means large photo and video folders land on your laptop quickly. Dynamic Thermal Guard technology is designed to stop the SSD getting too hot during long copy jobs and slowing down sharply as a result.

If it slips out of your bag: Samsung states that the T7 Shield survives drops of up to three metres. Your data is protected by AES-256 hardware encryption, you set a password using Samsung's software, and Samsung Magician lets you keep an eye on drive health and firmware. Two cables, USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A, are included. At 88 x 59 x 13 millimetres and around 98 grams, it stays easy to handle.

Worth knowing: it only delivers full speed from a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port. IP65 means protection against splashes and water jets, but not against submersion. Some devices, such as consoles, may require reformatting. Samsung provides a three-year limited warranty.
