The 1 TB Samsung 870 EVO is a classic upgrade for older laptops and desktop PCs that still run on a mechanical hard drive. Because it comes in the common 2.5-inch format with a SATA connection, it fits many devices without an M.2 slot and also works well as additional data storage.
Samsung quotes up to 560 MB/s read and 530 MB/s write, which is as much as the SATA interface allows. In everyday use, you'll notice this mainly when booting up, opening programs and loading files. Intelligent TurboWrite technology keeps write speeds high even during larger copy jobs, backed by 2 GB of LPDDR4 cache and Samsung's in-house MKX controller.
With the Samsung Magician software, you can migrate data from your old drive, monitor the SSD's health and install firmware updates. AES-256 drive encryption (TCG/Opal 2.0) is built in. Samsung provides a five-year warranty or 600 TB written, whichever comes first.
Worth knowing: check whether your device has a 2.5-inch bay with a SATA connection. For desktop PCs with 3.5-inch bays, you may need a mounting bracket. If your motherboard has an NVMe-capable M.2 slot, an NVMe SSD will be considerably faster; the 870 EVO really comes into its own when upgrading older systems.
