Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter: fast charger for iPhone and iPad

Since Apple stopped including a charger with its iPhones, the 20W USB-C Power Adapter is the matching original. It has a single USB-C port and delivers up to 20 watts – enough for the fast-charging feature of iPhones from iPhone 8 onwards.

According to Apple, the adapter takes an iPhone 8 or later to up to 50 percent in about 35 minutes. Apple itself notes that charging time varies with environmental conditions and that the figures were measured with drained devices. For iPad Pro and iPad Air, the manufacturer promises optimal charging performance.

Because USB-C is now standard on almost every Apple device, the adapter works as an all-rounder: according to Apple's compatibility list it also charges AirPods, Apple Watch and HomePod mini. It is small enough for a backpack or travel bag and makes a good second charger for the office.

Worth knowing: no cable is included. For iPhone 15 and later you need a USB-C to USB-C cable, for older iPhones a USB-C to Lightning cable. There is only one port, so you can't charge two devices at once. For MacBooks, 20 W is on the low side and charging will be slow. Other USB-C devices such as Android phones will charge too, but may not reach their full charging speed.
